When does the application process begin!

I'm a bit confuse on when they actually release the essay question and the application. Would definately appreciate it if anyone can lend me a hand. Thanks

I believe the app opens Nov. 1 and is due on the 30th.

^Yes, that’s when the app is available to fill out and then submit, but the essays should be up already

Thanks guys =), anybody have a link to the UCs essay question?

In the past, the application will be posted October 1 and you will be able to send it in anytime between in November.

So is that application include everything(such as AP scores, GPA, SAT, SATII, ECs, etc…)? So everything has to be done until that point? If like you did not take the SATs or other stuff yet you are basically screwed ?:frowning:
I get confused too. Can somebody like explain the whole thing or give me a link if you have the time. Thanks :P

Yes, it includes everything. You have to take the SAT by the December test date. If you don’t have the scores yet, just put down the date you will take or took the test.

Anybody have a link to UCs essay question for prospective students? Thanks

Googled it.

[University of California - Admissions](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/apply/how_apply/personal_statement.html)

Is that one last year or this?

It’s the same every year.

Really? So cant a guy who got accepted few years ago just give me his essay?

They do still have records of your essays, you know…

Well, were talking about thouands of students (each year) and even more applicants. What are the chances that the same person who read an essay will memorize it and two years later not only recall that its the same essay , but remember who was the original author.

If you wanted to “cheat” like that, there are so many other ways you could do it. They don’t check every single thing on your application, so you could probably write that you got a bunch of BS awards or something and they’ll believe that. But yeah, I guess you really could take someone else’s essay and try it. Good luck on not getting caught. Now that makes me wonder if they have a computerized thing that automatically checks essays to make sure they aren’t exactly the same as one from before. By the way, they used to have a 3rd personal statement a couple years ago that they got rid of.

I know for Vanderbilt at least, and probably a number of other schools, they put your whole application into a data base. So, theoretically, abch123 may be onto something in regard to checking essays; it wouldn’t be hard to do…

So in that case, I really wouldn’t reccomend that. But also as abch123 said, you could probably get away with making up awards/activities, but they would have to be mildly impressive at best. For example, saying you’re president of NHS while quite impressive, at least on paper, so saying so would certainly pique more inquiry than say, secretary of Robotics Club.

The issue is a bit more open-ended though, since UCs can’t check your stats against your reccomendations, since there are none.

So basically, I would only do and form of “making up” or “borrowing” if you absoluteley felt the need for whatever reason; it’s risky in any case, and based on your situation, may be morally reprehensible.

In regard to your original inquiry, I believe the filing period is 11/1/11/30, but you can view/start filling up from 10/1.

Thanks for the reponses. I’m not actually going to do something like that but knowing that the UC essay questions are the same every year just makes me wonder a couple of things

i dont think there the same every year? cuz i know in 2007 there were 3 prompts and last year there were 2…so yeah

Well that was my question all along. When does the new UC essay prompts come out. I see people here are as confuse as me haha

There is no confusion. juuliawho is just wrong. The essay prompts are the same as last year. They do change the prompts, but very rarely. Like I said (and juuliawho didn’t read it apparently), the only recent change was that they got rid of a third essay prompt a couple years ago. It actually wasn’t even a real essay prompt, as it just asked whether there was anything else you would like to tell the admissions officer in addition to your application. If you’re asking when the next time they will change the essay prompt is, nobody knows, because there’s complicated process to approve the new prompts.
