I was talking to a UM admissions counselor a few days ago to clarify the rolling admissions process. I was a deferred applicant EA from the College of Engineering. Basically, she said that Michigan has a "Modified Rolling Admissions", meaning that it IS rolling, but they don't send decisions as soon as they review your app. They send them out in batches. The last batch will be sent out in Early April, so that is why we were told that we have to wait, at the most, until then. My question is, based on previous years data, etc, when is it likely that the first batch of decisions will start coming out? Is it possible for it to happen later this month, or will it probably be after February 1 (the RD deadline)?

Engineering may be different than LSA, but last year, the batches were sporadic, not at regular intervals, with acceptances typically being sent on Fridays via Wolverine Access. Son was deferred in December and waited until the end of March for his acceptance - seemed like an eternity, but he is a happy Wolverine now. Hang in there.

I just submitted my app - hopefully I get considered among an ‘early January’ batch rather than a ‘late January’ batch, if there is such a thing.

SportsMom42, I was wondering, how many batches come out every month? By the way you make it sound, 4-ish?

Honestly, I don’t remember. Some weeks there was no news (acceptances), and other weeks, students were posting news of their acceptances. Since my son was one of the last to learn of his acceptance, it was really tough waiting and and feeling that your chances were dimming with every acceptance you heard about. Of the CC group that was still waiting in March last year, anecdotally, it seems as though most were waitlisted or rejected, but my son was accepted then, so it happens for some!!

If you applied rolling admissions (deferrals will obviously be different) does when you applied affect when you hear back?
