When does the interview schedule open?

Does anyone know how the interview process works for Yale? When S tries to schedule on the calendar it does not show that scheduling is available. I can't figure it out either. Am I missing something? Are they scheduled five years in advance? Or do they open it say May 15 for interviews starting June 1 and it's first come first-served?

Don’t sweat it either way. If you’re planning to visit Yale and can line up an interview, great. If not, it’s nothing to be concerned about – your son’s eventual outcome won’t be based on that one item.

Thanks for the reply. Yes it stands to reason that only a few very kids who interview actually end up on campus, since they draw from around the world and since so many kids apply. I’m trying to figure out summer plans so it would be nice to work it in, we’ll see what happens.

Got it, it opened May 16 at midnight!

FWIW: Yale campus interviews are NOT with Admissions Officers – they are with Yale seniors in their final year of undergraduate study. It’s a great opportunity to personally meet a Yale student and get their “feel” for the school, but as most students do not schedule an on campus interview when they visit, their value in the Admissions process is somewhat nebulous. If you apply to Yale, an alumni interview will be scheduled after your application is submitted.

It may not be a requirement. DD didn’t have an alumni interview. She did have an on campus interview last summer with a senior. Could it depend on the availability of alumnae??

^^ Although Yale tries to schedule an alumni interview for each applicant, availability is dependent on the number of applicants and the number of alumni interviewers in your area.

Thanks everyone for the input. We are full speed ahead on interviews (thanks for the tip about what to expect, ie, seniors versus admissions officers). It is a long shot anyway and S has a lot of other schools to do interviews for…but he is looking forward to a visit to campus.
