When does the reading of EA apps start?

I have a general question and a specific question.

The general question is when does MIT start reading the EA apps? Is it as soon as each app is submitted with all the required docs? In other words, if an app is complete and submitted on 10/1, would the reading start soon after?

Now to the specific question. My son submitted his EA app on 10/31 and as of 11/1, the tracker shows his Eval A is still missing. His teacher mailed it on 11/1. Will admissions start reading his app before processing his Eval A?

now .

jk I dunno. probably middle of nov to late november

Hi! We don’t review partial cases until the last possible moment.

Likely your son’s letter is on its way to us and will be processed shortly.

We don’t have a large number of complete cases right now. Most become complete in the first or second week of November.

-McG

I know my daughter’s paperwork was received at MIT last Thursday. How long do you think it will take until it shows on her account as “processed?”

expect a week. I mailed some stuff two weeks before the deadlien and it took about that lo9ng to get updated

I would expect longer than a week, especially considering how much mail there is. You shouldn’t start worrying until someone posts the ‘all the mail has been opened’ blog post.

Seriously, if they haven’t received anything, they’ll assume it was their error, not yours, and you will be able to resend it. Relax.

^About that. MIT won’t necessarily know that I have sent in my supplement (although I tracked it via fedex and said it reached there). Is there a way to prevent them from reviewing my file until all (like i said, sup recs and stuff) have been sent?
gracias.

I’m reasonably certain that they won’t start reviewing files until after all the mail’s been sorted, so you should be fine.

yes, the MIT admissions emphasizes that they read everything before making any decisions

It’s also not as though your application, once out to be read, is irrevocable. If your application is thought to be complete and given to readers, and another application component comes in, that component will be added to your application.

I know not all the processing is done yet, but is it odd that everything except my Secondary School Report/Transcript has been processed already? Everything was sent in one package, so I’m not sure why the other parts would have been sorted but not that.

This seems to be a specific issue many people are having. Don’t worry about it, at least not until somebody in the admissions office posts the “we’ve opened all the mail” blog entry.

i saw matt’s blog entry on mit admissions site today about tracking materials…great post. Anyways, so as I understand it, molliebatmit, that means that even if my supplemental materials (extra recommendation, abstract, resume, or whatever) hasn’t been officially processed it will be reviewed before decisions?
Thanks,

I take that to mean they’ve started reading. Eep!

Yes, of course.
