When does UofC start releasing results for RD?

I always assumed it would be April 1st, but is there a specific date for the University of Chicago?

Nope. For EA, no one knew until they released it. Rumors floated around saying that’d be December 15th, but no one really knew considering the bump in applications. In all reality, they should be released by April 1st, if not sooner. Anything later than that is really just unacceptable, in my opinion.

I think it was March 25th last year, which was a Wednesday, but yeah, it’ll be some time before April 1st. There really isn’t any rhyme or reason to it…be patient and best of luck.

I wouldn’t get all antsy about this. Remember, you have an admissions office staffed for 10-12,000 applications/year reading almost 16,000 this year, and they’re accepting fewer students RD (= more tough decisions), and they’ve never been really early in the past. I don’t think there’s much realistic chance of having decisions ready before Friday 3/26, and I would be pleasantly surprised of they were ready then (which is probably the informal target). They won’t slip past April 1, since April 2 is a holiday. They’ve never released decisions on Saturday in the past. So basically, that leaves five possible days, Friday 3/26 and Mon 3/29 - Thurs 4/1, and I am sure they will be trying their hardest to get things out early in that window rather than late.

Chicago doesn’t send out likely letters, does it? I’m hearing about likely letters from my friends for some Ivies, but not Chicago.

Chicago traditionally does not send likely letters. Whether it will in upcoming years will be decided by Nondorf.

My bet is that RD decisions will be released about the same time as last yr, the beg of the last wk of March. Though the 19,000+ apps are much more than expected, about 32% or 5855 of those (i.e. EAs) have already been read and decided in Dec, leaving new reads of 13,000 + some strong deferrals.

On the other hand, I’d not be surprised if UofC put out likely letters this yr, considering its aggressive drive to increase yield with the mass mailings prior to deadlines, the nice gifts to Early Admits, and the fact that Chicago is not bound by Ivy’s notification policies. When Nordorf was in Yale, he did say that the letters are great tools for yield purpose.

thanks guys  best of luck to you all!
