I haven't ordered/bought the required textbooks yet so I have some questions about that:

1) When do professors usually start use of textbooks? The first day? Second week?

2) Is it too late to order online to ship to my house? Or at this point should I ask for the books to be shipped to my dorm if I decide to buy some books online?

3) How easy is it to find students who are willing to sell textbooks at reasonable prices?

It may be a little late to ship to your house if you use Amazon. It took about 7 days for the two books I bought to arrive so I would definately ship to the dorm at this point.

no you'll be fine if you ship with Amazon. they're giving free two day shipping for textbooks. basically, what happens is if you buy over $100 worth of textbooks, then you can sign up for Amazon Prime and you'll get free 2 day shipping for 3 months for products you order directly from Amazon itself (not authorized sellers). The funny thing is, you can sign up for Amazon Prime whenever you want and get free 2 day shipping for 3 months.

so order today or tomorrow at the latest if you want to ship to your house AND if you are buying books directly from Amazon. If you want to ship them to your dorm, I would order them Thursday or Friday. If you're buying from the authorized sellers (on the right side of the screen it says, "More buying choices." those used, new, refurb options are from different sellers) then 2 day shipping does not apply and so you would be much better off sending it to your dorm room. Just remember that if your buying from the authorized sellers, they have different times for shipping. Some people will put your book in the mail the next day and some people will take a week. If the worst happens and your books take a little longer than you expected, I'm sure you can share a book with someone for a few days until yours come in.

If it makes you feel better, I'm still buying stuff on Amazon and having them send it to my house. I ordered a rice cooker yesterday morning and it just got here. (and i clicked 2 day shipping.)

I saw that offer but didn't want to get stuck with paying fees for Amazon Prime. How do you make that work for you? Sign up then cancel, and repeat as needed?

there's no fee. on the confirmation page of your order, it'll say "sign up for a free trial of amazon prime!" click it. and a window will come up and then press accept. And that's it. no hidden fees. it will only sign you up for a 3 month trial; you aren't obligated to sign up forever. I did it through my Dad's account a while ago and after the trial period was over, that was it; they weren't obnoxiously pushing it in my face. It's the same amount of advertising everyone gets.

I have my classes but am not sure what I will keep and where exactly I find what books i need? Am I good to just wait till classes start then go get the books I need from the bookstore?

no. After it was over, they sent me an e-mail and were like your trial of Amazon Prime is about to expire! If you would like to keep Amazon Prime, please click link below. If not, thank you and I hope you enjoyed your trial version!

something along those lines. You'll automatically be taken out after 3 months and you physically have to sign up for Amazon Prime again if you want it for real. By physically, I mean you to have to go to your account, find the button(s), click, and confirm like 4 times.
