When does Yale need the Statement of Finances from EA kids? International students?

Hi everyone :) An honest question as the title reads. I'm a Chinese citizen currently studying in an international school in Shanghai and am not applying for financial aid. I've been scouring the Internet looking for information as to whether I need to send in my Statement of Finances (is that even the right term?) with my EA application, but to no avail.

That said, is there anything else I'm missing? What do we need in aside from the Common App+Naviance teacher/counselor recs?

The Y website is pretty complete, is there some FA information that you can’t find here?:

Thank you for your quick reply entomom. However, having read these pages in the past, I was under the impression that these provisions were only for applicants requesting Financial Aid? What are the specifications for those not applying for financial aid?

^? You don’t need to do anything if you’re not applying for financial aid. Just warm up the bank account.

If you can’t find the information you need on the website, give Y a call.

I believe they need financial statements because they need assurance that, if you don’t apply for financial aid, that your family has the ability to pay for it. They want to know everything is in order – and that you’ll actually be able to complete 4 years of study.

:/ the conflicting responses are worrying… Do they require the financial statement for people not asking for financial aid in time for the November 1 deadline? Or is that still only for applicants applying for aid, with the rest needing it in only if/when they matriculate?

I called Yale yesterday to find out what supporting documents they’d need for an international applicant who’s not applying for financial aid, and they said there’s nothing else to submit, as long as you’ve checked the “not asking for aid” box on the common app. hope this helps! and all the best!

Oh my god WinkyB, you are a lifesaver. Are you an international yourself?

Yup! Why else would I bother calling?! :stuck_out_tongue: I really don’t think i’ll make it through though… the stories just seem to be getting scarier every year :(
