"So, when are decisions coming out? I we don't are not know telling. That is a mixture between "I don't know" and "We are not telling." We have a goal date. Do we ever meet the goal date? No. So we're not even going to tell you the goal date, because we probably won't meet it. If we do, we'll be happy, and you'll get your decision in mid-December. If we don't, we'll be less happy, but you'll still get your decision in mid-December.

I can tell you that you will get a letter in the mail. We still do that. I can also tell you that we will email you and tell you to check your decision online when it is available. That is different from last year. Last year we emailed the decisions themselves, but this year we are going to make your official decision available when you log into the online application. So, it is to your benefit to be familiar with your user name and password on the online application! I can also tell you that we will not send this email during school hours, so don't expect it in the morning.

If you are admitted, you will also be able to go immediately to a website called ThickEnvelope (haha!) and accept your offer of admission right away! You'll also be able to log into bulletin boards to chat with fellow future classmates, sign up for April overnight programs, etc."

Now I know that the adcom's goal date is December 15th, this Saturday (eek!), but it seems that the adcom didn't meet their goal date last year. When did the EA applicants of previous years get their decisions? How many days, hours, minutes after/before the goal date? (the specific-er the better)
Should current EA applicants expect decisions to be out by this Saturday?

A serious question (sorry!) for Libby: will the email notice (telling us to check our decision by logging into the online application) be sent out the same day as the snail-mail letters, or will there be a three-day delay before the emails are sent, like last year? (Last year, the letters were mailed on the afternoon of Dec. 15, and the emails were sent out at 5:00 PM on the 18th.)

I checked last year's blog. Libby actually wrote around this time last year (Monday, Dec 11, 2006):

Gee, it took last year's class months to get up to the sheer volume of commenting that you guys have.

The party line for when decisions will be mailed and e-mailed is: "Early next week."

I know a lot of you will be disappointed to hear that, but believe me, it's better to get the correct letter than to get the letter early!

***Now, I'm hoping she'll post something along the lines "I we DO ARE know telling" sometime soon...

at the very least, it would be nice to give us a date or some rough deadline. (i.e. decisions will be out no later than Dec. 23, etc.) the worst part is not knowing when to expect it.

Gah, I can't take this. I was perfectly fine 24 hours ago, and then it suddenly clicked for me that decisions are finally coming out, and now I'm spending all of Programming class trying to figure out what's going on. Thanks for posting this! I looked for something like this but couldn't find it.

I think Chicago is being a(n) ***. If you are not planning on releasing the date, don't update that blog. Instead, they updated twice in two days asking absurd questions that will only exacerbate any stress that we already have.

MIT was doing it for a while as well, tongchen. They know that you guys are way stressed out (moreso than you'll ever be in college, most likely), so they're trying to calm you do, and meanwhile not understanding that this is nearly impossible.

haha i'm with tongchen on this one. i find the frequent updates about trivial things ANNOYING.

instead of asking us how we'd like our decisions, just GIVE them to us! i swear, if they don't tell us by monday (when all the other early applicants in my highschool will be bragging/bawling) i will go crazy.

Guys, come on, I know its stressful but don't get mad at admissions for just trying to take our mind off of applications. They've been working extremely hard and its sort of insulting to them to complain about not knowing when decisions are out. Their posts are just to keep you a little less stressed. I'm just as nervous as the rest of you but I don't need to take it out on them posting fun little things.

I actually don't really have a problem with them posting stuff. I just can't stand not knowing, and I'm upset with them for not giving us more info. But I do understand how much work they have to do, and how annoying we must be getting in some ways (the ~700 comment-filled post on the blog? What's up with that?) when they can't really do a thing about it. I think it's just the stress that's making us react like this.

Everybody gets stressed at this stage in the applications process. On the parents forum, people frequently vent by arguing about politics - sometimes resulting in threads getting locked - LOL.

My guess is that they will get you your decisions in relatively short order - the admissions committee seems to really be burning the midnight oil this year.
