When exactly do most colleges actually begin evaluating applications?

I'm pretty curious...

If the deadline was Jan. 1, probably around Jan. 16-28 is when they start.

Once the scattered particulars are brought together, the evaluation begins. There is no set date.

It is later than the middle of January, and it depends on what you mean by evaluate. The two insider books are "Admissions Confidential" by Toors and "The Gatekeepers" by Steinberg. They first spend weeks doing nothing but reading essays and scoring the essays on a 1-9 or 1-5 or something scale. There are typically two readers and if they disagree by more than 1 point, a third reader will read it. Auto-admits and auto-denies may be identified at this point. After all of the essays have been scored, then they start having committee meetings to make decisions.

do you think it may be too late to send essay revisions by mail to a jan 1st deadline college?

bump.... pretty important...
