When goes Colgate start accepting? And why does Colgate do this?!

Alright, so the first question is clear: when does Colgate start accepting RD kids?

Also, every other day, I get huge packages from Colgate. They basically say how wonderful Colgate is and all that stuff. The kind of packages you're suppose to get BEFORE you apply. Some of them are about "how to write your college essay" ***? I mean, it's wayyy past the deadline, and I already applied.

I love Colgate, and everytime I see one of these huge packages I get semi-excited and think that they'll be an admissions offer or something like that. I don't like getting excited for nothing. :|

Historically, Colgate acceptance letters have come out around the last week of March.

do you know what kind of envelope the acceptances and rejections come in?

My son was ED last year, but his acceptance came in a big envelope with a car sticker, a calendar and a nice letter from the Dean.

I think they send out letters March 27 this year.

i got in ED and in the mailing i got today it said they were sending RD letters on or before march 28.

Colgate sends out early admit letters to Alumni Memorial Scholars - usually starting around the end of February.

my son got his Colgate letter at the end of March two years ago. It was the last school that he heard from. A big envelope with car sticker, a calender and a very nice letter. good luck to you

are they delivered using express mail???I'm a Canadian student in China, so I don't want to wait another 2 weeks after they mail it to get it!

My D got accepted AMS (you don't apply, they just offer) and she found out the last week of Feb (basically, now) in a large white envelope that had a folder in it. I thought it was just a info packet and it sat all weekend before my son took it up to her..

was curious about fourkidsmom's reference to AMS, which is "Alumni Memorial Scholars"

Each year, Colgate honors its top 200 accepted students as Alumni Memorial Scholars. This recognition is the highest honor within the admission process, and an indication of an excellent match, both academically and personally, with Colgate. Alumni Memorial Scholars (AMS) show great potential for intellectual and community leadership. The AMS program is designed to nurture that potential, reward achievement, and provide unique opportunities that capitalize on Colgate's strengths as a community of learners, dedicated to the liberal arts and sciences.

Though not a "merit scholarship," the award does recognize academic merit and achievement combined with leadership and accomplishment in top candidates regardless of financial aid status. Selection by the admission staff is based on academic performance, demonstrated talents, and the respect a student has earned from both teachers and counselors. No special application is required. Students who apply to Colgate through regular decision are notified of the award by letter in late February, while students who apply to Colgate through Early Decision I receive notification in mid-December. Early Decision II applicants are notified of AMS recognition within four weeks of receipt of all admission materials.

A particular highlight of the AMS program is the Alumni Memorial Fellowship Program, which offers each enrolled Alumni Memorial Scholar up to $5,000 to pursue summer research, independent projects, or other shorter projects that enhance or expand their education beyond the curriculum.

thanks, should have explained that myself.

I just got my acceptance letter today--Alumni Memorial Scholar so i think a type of Early Write
It came in a big white envelope with a maroon folder inside with the letter, information, car decal, schedule etc.
I'm really pumped because i got a personal note from the Dean of Admissions
Good Luck to all

congratulations on getting accepted! but not to burst your bubble but everyone who gets accepted to colgate gets a personal note from the Dean of Admissions .. its Colgate's little thing

i wondered if that was the case--seems like it would take forever

Does anyone know about Colgate's rejection/deferral/waitlist letters for ED 2 applicants? I am an international student in Vietnam and I also applied under ED 2. I have been long waiting for their decisions and so far getting nothing. Do they mail the rejection letters simultaneously with those of acceptance?

In the ED Agreement form we have to have 3 signatures, right? One is from our counselors but in Vietnam unfortunately we do not have any kind of counselors. So I submitted a form with only 2 signs and when explaining the problem to them, I initially receive their understanding and a confimation of complete app in early Feb. But the other day I receive an email which told me that I must have a teacher sign the form and fax it to them. Do you think that this can hurt my chance or something like that? What do you guess they will do in my case, such as moving my notification to April, or make a decision at once after I fax the form with 3 signs?

And do the ED 2 applicants have to send the mid-year report? They have never asked me about my senior mid-year grades.

By the way, do all the applicants receive glossy brochures and viewbooks and something kinda 'conversations' with 'how to write your college essays' from Colgate? I am really curious about this, since mailing transportation to my country is not very cheap.
I am grateful for any answers and replies. Thanks a bunch.

even though the Dean signs all the acceptance letters, it is impressive to me. My d referred back to her essays and that issomething special to receive.

fallorchid- I don't know what it will do to your acceptance timing. I woud definitely get the other signature out as soon as possible but e-mail the school and ask them the questions.

wait...so they send out 200 letters total or they just accept 200 people for enrollment? If they only send 200 letters that seems awfully few...

They offer the AMS honor to the top 200 accepted students.

It is a only a small %. Most of whom probably end up enrolling at Princeton, Dartmouth, Williams instead.
