When/How to start studying for the SAT?

I'm going to be a junior this fall. Many people have told me that the best time to start studying for the SAT is the summer between your sophomore and junior year. I bought the Official Guide today... but I really dont know how to start preparing for the SAT I took a practice test about a month ago and got 1390 out of 2400 ( i know it sucks). I am aiming for 2100+.

What do you guys think? Is the official guide enough? are there any helpful books you can recommend me?

I am in the same situation as you, except i haven’t taken any SAT practice tests yet. From what I heard, Gruber’s Complete Guide is the best for the Math portion. Then for vocab, get Direct Hits [both volumes]. For the passage reading and writing section I heard that people like Rocket Review or Maximum SAT. I don’t think the latter two have come out with any new editions, but the latest oldest one should be sufficient.

Stick with the official guide, which should be coming out with a new edition next month, for practice tests :)

Good luck and I hope we both do well!
