When I apply to a school...

<p>... am I automatically up for their scholarships? I want to apply to the University at Albany, and I don't know whether or not I have to apply for their scholarships separately (Scholarships</a> - SUNY at Albany (UAlbany) - Cappex). Am I automatically up for these scholarships upon applying, or do I do so separately from the application? Thanks.</p>

<p>It varies with the school and with the scholarship. The first thing to do is to go to the college FA website and look for scholarships. For SUNY Albany:</p>

Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded to new and continuing students based on academic excellence, leadership, service, talent, financial need, and any criteria required by the scholarship donor.</p>

<p>Unlike loans, scholarships do not have to be repaid. Many scholarships are need-based and require students to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in conjunction with the scholarship application. The scholarship applicant is responsible for completing forms and providing valid documentation for scholarship consideration.</p>
