I am out of state. I have a 3.33 UM GPA (10th and 11th grades), and I got a 2260 on my SATs. I heard that for rolling admissions one should apply as early as possible, but in this case, I also want UMich to consider my senior year grades (which I hope will be straight As). When is the best time that I should apply?

ASAP. don't worry about senior year grades, if they want to see them they will defer you.

If I get deferred, when will my application get read again?

bumppppppp

i have the EXACT problem you do. Almost even the same stats

I don't know if anyone, even someone on the adcom can answer that question.

They probably forecast the number of apps that they will receive at various points in the cycle to determine which applicants and how many applicants they will admit and when. If they have more apps at any point in the cycle than they forecasted (like they did last year), they will be more selective and defer more applicants, and to later on in the review cycle. If they receive fewer apps than they forecast, than they will admit more applicants and earlier in the cycle.

Until they are far enough into the cycle to see a trend, there is no telling when they will take action on deferrals.

I know that you would like a more definitive answer but it doesn't exist at this time.

On the bright side, by deferring you, they have indicated that you are a viable candidate for admission. At this point, it's a matter of whether they think there will be enough spaces in the class to accomodate you.

dang, same stats and nearly identical SAT scores. Apply ASAP. Like submachine said, they will defer you if they want to see your senior year grades. I think a lot of people that get deferred get accepted though. At my school, basically everyone except the extremely overqualified got deferred...then aboug half of the deferred got accepted.

If I get deferred, when will my application get read again?

Generally speaking, students who are deferred are re-evaluated in February or March and get the final decision by April 1st, along with the majority of the applicants who are admitted.

All of you who wish to have the university consider your senior grades, applying later will not change the outcome. Michigan will only look at your senior grades if you are deferred. So you might as well apply early.
