When in high school did you apply?

Everyone I've asked says they applied in their Junior year. Does UT not look at the Senior year? Is Senior year not important?

Hi, explodingtoenail (wow, that sounds painful!), August 1 is the earliest date anyone can apply. See [How to Apply | Freshmen | Be a Longhorn](http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/freshmen/admission/requirements/)

Senior year IS important. (The only people who can arguably take it easy senior year are top 9%–the magic number for seniors graduating in 2012–who are not applying to a competitive major.) Your senior year course selections are important to show rigor–you can’t “reward” yourself and take the easiest possible schedule. It is important to maintain your grades senior year–depending on when you apply, UT may see fall senior year grades in considering your application.

Good luck!

Your class rank is set at the end of your junior year. You should make reasonable grades in your senior year. If you are a student who was trying for and making 100s, you can relax a bit. Take courses that inspire and challenge you. You will report your senior year schedule as part of your college applications.

Work on your application between now and August 1st. Polish your essays over the summer. Get your recommendations pre-arranged. Submit test scores. Be ready to hit the apply button in early, early August 2011. Why? Housing. The date your application is deemed “complete” and “submitted” is the date you can apply for housing and sets your priority (your place in line) for housing.

Good luck!!!

I applied November of my Senior year, during Thanksgiving Break. The transcript I sent only had my grades/rank up until the end of my Junior year.

Senior grades do matter, but not quite as much as the years before. From what I’ve gathered, they just want to make sure that your GPA didn’t drop significantly. I fell out of the top 10% (even though my GPA increased) second semester, which showed on my final transcript, but didn’t suffer any consequences for it.
