I was recently accepted to MSU, and with the scholarships, Honors College, Lyman Briggs, professional assistantship, etc. that they have offered, it is a very real possibility.

I am kind of confused by their response instructions though, and have a few questions:

Can I create the NetID and email account before I decide whether I'm going or not?

It says that the Advanced Enrollment Deposit is due "within four weeks of receiving your admitted student packet. Freshmen starting fall semester must submit the AED no later than the May 1 deadline." Is it due in 4 weeks or by May 1?

Hi mt1993,
Yes, you can create the NetId and email account even before putting down the deposit. However, you can not sign up for an orientation (AOP) or housing until deposit is paid. It does say the your $250.00 deposit will be refunded as long as you notify them in writing my May 1st that you will not be attending. From what I understand, housing is assigned in order of deposit, although that could just be a rumor.

Technically they want you to submit the deposit within 4 weeks. But you are not really required to submit it until May 1. If you are certain that MSU is your backup choice, I’d just put the $250 down sometime soon and then call before may 1st to get a full refund if you decide on another school.

I’m pretty sure that “housing assigned in order of deposit” is not true. Housing is assigned for everyone at the same time in June (you don’t get your exact room/roommate assignments until late July/early August). Plus, if you are in lyman briggs you are essentially guaranteed holmes hall.
