when is a resume neccesary?

i'm not sure when you add a resume to your application
do u add it with the common app or a school's own app
thanks

bump...i hv question in this as well....should we just like send one in no matter what? cuz i wanna do that haha

bumpbumpbump

It's almost never necessary. In fact, more often than not, it's unnecessary, and sometimes schools even specifically ask that you not send in an attached resume. For the Common App, some people use the 'additional info' section to put in a resume, but again, check with each school about its policy -- you don't want to annoy the adcoms by putting superfluous information when they don't want anything other than the information that the application requests.

^ people always say "dont superpad your resume with crap" which is very true, except also realize the common app does NOT have enough room to expand on your EC's. Even if you're something big like International President of Key Club, theres not really enough room to put likely all the positions such as State Governor and stuff you had to go through before becomign it, and certainly not enough room to write "International President". and if you had other positions too that were major, then you include a resume. I plan on including one with mine, because I'm a pretty significant officer nationally, so in those special cases, DEFINETLY DO SO! When you get to national office, everything in College EC's changes.

Definitely write one. But if your resume looks just like your application I would not send it (do share it with GC and recommending teachers though).
The point of the resume is to allow you to present yourself in a format that makes sense and reflects well on you. If the application works for you don't worry about sending a resume but it is a good idea to prepare one anyway.

I don't think it really needs to be a traditional resume. There is a section for you to indicate academic honors, and the college supplements have areas for you to list AP scores. So, the only thing that's left are your ECs. You can put those in the additional information section with the respective awards and positions. That's all you should put. Don't go crazy and give them everything all over again.
