I was just wondering about what time do most people apply?

Now would be the best time. The later you apply, the harder it is to get in.

are they accepting applications now?!?

Yup.
(ten characters)

I'm almost done my app. I of course have to wait until I see my teachers once school starts to get the recs, but you should do all you can to finish your part of the app now.

Ok..so i want to retake the ACT in sept and don have my teacher recs yet...so should i send transcript, and extracurriculars list, essay etc now...and all the other stuff later?

Yes. You can specify that you're taking the ACT in september on your app. If they think you're already good enough to get in, they'll accept you. If not, they'll wait for the scores.

thanks christine

I read somewhere that UM doesnt accept rushed SAT/ACT scores. Is this true. Would it be a bad idea to take the november SAT and try to submit it?

Btw, when is the deadline for everything?

Unless you are a very strong candidate (3.7+ UM GPA/2200+ SAT), the November SAT, considering you take it in early November, the results are released two weeks later and they arrive at the college probably a week or so later, will be cutting it very close.

Just take the October SAT?

A lot of colleges don't like rushed scores, even if you send them in at last minute, because they're sent by mail. They have to manually enter scores into computers, which apparently is a pain and oftentimes takes a lot more time than just sending them normally and getting them automatically transferred onto computers or something like that...

what do they mean by rush scores?

You can pay extra money to have coolegeboard express your SAT scores to colleges. $18 per a college, I think.

I'm going to apply in January!

Can you request a specific ACT score to be sent if you have taken two and don't want the second to be seen? I got a 27 then had a really bad test day for the second and got a 24. Can we just have one sent?

I think they honestly just take the highest score.

Well I'm also applying to NU and I don't want them seeing that I had a lower score like that. I'd like them thinking I could do better. Which I think I can given that 24 came on a day when the proctor was walking round the room looking at things and a girl's cell phone went off and the proctor and her had a two-minute spat about whether vibrate means it is on or off. And I was getting the flu that day.

ACT allows you to select the score you want to send. So you're allowed to only send the 27.

Thanks CC, glad to hear!! I had sent NU and UM my ACT score of 27 originally, then took the second testing and didn't realize I'd get a 24 and so that was sent too. I think NU seeing I had a 24 and 27 was enough to make them think it wasn't enough prep. UChicago didn't see my 24 and I got in there. So I'm hoping as a Transfer to NU and with ONLY a 27 being reported might be enough. Otherwise, I'm heading back to UM to do the film program thing!!

Christine123 said that you can note on the application that you are takign the ACT again. Can you do the same with SAT's? I have SAT: 700m 670v and 710w, and a ACT: 30. I am wondering if i am better off applying now since chances are better earlier, or if i should wait to apply later assuming scores will increase by about 20-30 points? Does anyone have any suggestions, what would be more advantageous for admissions?
