When *is* it a good idea to retake?

I too am sick of the "OMGZ 2370 SHOULD I RETAKE????" threads. When, however, if you're aiming for an Ivy League school, is it wise to retake the SAT? Is the cutoff...2200? 2250? Just wondering what you all think (with, admittedly, some personal gain, as I'm currently deciding whether to retake my 700M, 760CR, 770W).

Personally, I think anything over 2250 is identical, as long as your scores aren't oddly lopsided (800, 800, 650).

Thanks!

If you honestly believe you can raise your math score a significant amount (more than 30 points) then it may be worth retaking. If your goal is an Ivy or top private school, they weigh SATs the least. If you want HYP (the holy grail) try to get a 2300. If you'll settle for Penn/Cornell, you will be in great shape with a 2250. If you want good merit aid at state schools, try to get the highest SAT score possible. Ivies are not incredibly numbers based (because everyone has the numbers) but state schools are. Look at your goals and the benefits of retaking your SAT. Then decide.

2050 - 2150

any time you can break another 100 aka 2000,2100,2200,2300, thatd be a retake, just because all scores of those levels in between are pretty much the same since all score totals can fluctuate 30-50pts or so. but if you're REALLY lopsided like 750, 750, 500, then a retake is prolly good to.

Look for HYP you do not always need above a 2300 unless all you are banking on is your SAT score. Personally i have a very strong app so a 2240 (my score) is just a supporting factor. As long as you are a very strong candidate, excluding standardized test scores, then descent scores will get you in fine and descent is not above 2300.
