DS seems to really like our visits, although they are few and far between…although, there are hints that a girl may have entered the picture…so the game may have changed. We will see on move-out! :-"
I am hoping to get a job @ GolfKiddo’s school and a helicopter pad down the lane… I know there are parents who have actually found jobs at schools to be able to “visit” all the time …Attn schools: I.will volunteer as your golf coach just to visit kiddo … job wanted for helicopter parent :-bd
For those who are not able to move in with their kiddos like @Golfgr8 (because be serious we all want to go to these schools!), I will mention that many schools now live stream some sports games and big events. Sometimes you can watch your kid’s game on your phone. Very cool - and a long way from the snail mail/hall phone horror of my own BS days.
@chemmchimney (cue song)… those live streams, parent videos with YouTube channels, shared Shutterfly and social media postings have meant the world to us when it comes to sporting events!!! Add in almost nightly FaceTime chats–Thank God for tachnology…or I’d have definitely moved by now!!!
Thanks @chemmchimney and @buuzn03 - I forgot that there was livestream of sports. You are so right about wanting to go to these schools! Maybe a parents weekend at BS just for us parents would be fun?
Omg @Golfgr8 . Reading that, instantly a picture popped into my head of a group of us parents making the BS rounds, popping out of the bushes with all sorts of crazy paraphernalia and noise making at our kids. Just for pure embarrassment value. =)) I can see myself now in a huge rainbow Afro wig and a big foam hand!
I think it would be fun @buuzn03 to have all of us parents at BS without the kids one weekend. Some of those schools have nicer facilities than colleges :bz
^^ That is for sure. Every time I arrive at DS’s school I think to myself that he goes to school at a country club. College may be a giant let-down.
Totally agree that parents should get better opportunities to enjoy their kid’s boarding schools – without the kids. A while ago on another thread, some of use were musing about various types of retirement communities, and I thought it would be a great idea to create one that looked and worked like a boarding school:
Would move to that place in a minute!
You got that right, @CTMom21.
DD made that same observation today during our first “official” college campus tour. The science facilities and the library of a well-known LAC looked “dingy” to her… 8-|
I’m just reading through this thread, and I’m surprised (not for the first time) to hear about the filthy boys’ dorms. Either my standards are really low, or the Mercersburg dorm parents’ are really high, because I haven’t encountered that. Any rooms I’ve seen have been fine, and there are no frightening aromas in the dorm. To stay on topic, I firmly believe parents need to travel to BS for graduation, so I intend to do so in a few days.
Wow, how time flies! Enjoy @twinsmama !
Enjoy graduation weekend @twinsmama ! I am so looking forward to our upcoming 4 years at Mercersburg!
(…and I found during our tours of schools that the boys’ rooms at Mercersburg were much cleaner than at other schools).
Congrats to the twins! I guess I’d better plan on going to graduation, too…sigh.
Yikes, congratulations, @twinsmama ! I am having panic attacks over the fact that freshman year is just about over. I think one reason to visit school when possible is that as fast as the years go by normally, it seems to go even faster when the kids aren’t around, and it’s nice to witness some of it. At least the breaks are long.
