I heard we move in on Sept. 18th and school starts on the following Monday - is this right? I can't seem to navigate UCSD's website very easily.

And some more questions...

I got an e-mail about authorizing people who will help pay tuition.

My mom will be helping me pay for college, but she does not use the internet. Should I still sign her up, or would it be easier for her to deposit money into my bank account and I pay it myself?

And finally - I signed up for Direct Deposit a few weeks ago, but the box is still unchecked. Any idea whats going on?

The quarter begins on September 20th but classes start on September 23, Thursday. the 20th-22nd are administrative work days, basically. The first day of move-in is September 18th; you have to check in by September 21 at 4:00 PM.

You might as well authorize your Mom anyway, in case she has to call in or act on your behalf. it sounds like you’ll be fine just paying it yourself though. you can download the Housing calendar which tells you the dates when your housing payments are due.

You’ll be moving in and then you have several days of “Welcome Week” - basically a week of free food and fun events, including the Unolympics. Your college will give you a pamphlet when you move in of all the activities they have planned.

Get there early (earlier than your roommate), you can have your pick of your side of the room, which bathroom cubbyhole, etc

Visit Costco on Morena Blvd and Target on Balboa Ave

Ralph’s/Trader Joe’s on Villa La Jolla and Nobel

Wander around campus

Tip: If you’re living in Blake or Argo, there are two driveways that are much closer than the parking lots for moving in. One’s on the west end of Pacific Hall and the other’s between Urey and NSB. Both have limited 20-minute parking spots, but as long as someone’s with the car as you’re moving stuff in and out, you won’t get ticketed. You can borrow shopping carts and dollies from the ResLife office on the northeastern corner of Blake Hall.

regarding your direct deposit question, you’ll come to expect ucsd to take a long time with those sorts of things. don’t worry about it unless it comes the beginning of september and its still unchecked.
