My friend sent in my peer rec today (postmarked 12/30). Is that fine or does the letter have to arrive by 1/1? If so, I don't think mine won't arrive in time.

yeah im sure its fine, i mena my counselor hasnt even posted my recommendation and i think its fine if she submits is later.

I think the Postmark should be, at the latest, 1/1
So you're all good!
:)

Just make sure all the things you have control over - common app, essays, score reports, supplements- are in at the deadline. If you're application is in play, you'll get notified (by about mid-February if history is good guidance) if there are any missing materials.

Alumni interview and peer recs are not critical factors, but Dartmouth is a kind of isolated community where students have to connect with at least some of the sub-cultures to avoid going nuts. I think they try hard to avoid admitting the obvious loners/hermits who will not have a good experience.

my (lazy) friend says that he's going to send it out tomorrow (january 2).
is that going to be a problem?

It's all postmark date-based.
kevins8, you're fine. They can't penalize you for a lazy friend who you can't control ;)

...isn't the peer review optional? I haven't had anybody do mine. This could be an issue.

no. unfortunately it is not optional.

PresidentDunn

you can have a chat with me and I can do it for you... but I have to write that I know you for only a few hours lol....

brr..my friend (in dartmouth at the moment :) ) told me his friend gave in the peer rec. in august!!

That's when mine was done. Either august or september. I wonder if they actually care about them significantly... my friend wrote an extremely good one, IMO.
