In 3rd Co., there are 60 Plebe Candidates making it about 100 kids in total. The numbers per company varies as some of the kids are at sea. You guys are great. I'm sure the kids would love getting the cookies to celebrate the end of Indoc. What a pick-me-up for the upcoming academics too. Maybe the sugar will keep some of them awake in class. One Mid mentioned last year that hard candies were awesome for keeping him awake. The really really sour ones or the really really hot kind. I found those pretty easy to ship in bulk. ;)

As usual Jamzmom you are a wealth of knowledge..thanks.

Also, fyi, USPS has the flat rate box available. $8.95 per box to ship.

I shipped an 8 by 8 brownie square in a ziploc freezer bag. I didn't cut the brownies, and when my son got them, they were still moist, etc. The kids could cut what they wanted, when they wanted, and the brownies stayed fresh tasting longer. Surprised even me when one batch got delayed, and it was several days later that the box arrived, but still, I was told 'They were good!' Perhaps that was a 'white lie,' but I felt happy!

my mom just sends stuff in cardboard boxes with foam peanuts around them in tupperware containers

If you send enough for 100 people, you're talking at least 8 or 9 dozen--for one cookie each! Will that many fit in the flat rate mailbox? The "Tips" listed on the Parents Page said to send at least two dozen--but five would be better. Current mids and experienced parents, what is the expectation of the company?

First I have to say, I'm not a great baker (or cook), so I don't send cookies, but I do send other goodies - granola bars, power bars, gummy bears, gatorade powder, etc.

Since the packages can be addressed directly to the Plebes now, they do not have to share with the whole company. They can if they want, but they can also "hide" it in their personal drawer. So if your kid is the kind to share with the whole group, send lots, otherwise I would just send enough for them to share with the roommate(s) and friends.

When I talked to my son on Sunday, he told me to send enough goodies for 30. I questioned the number because I knew there are more then 30 in his Company. (BTW he is in 3rd Company). He told me that there are 30 in his platoon and that was the correct amount to send. I made brownies and rice crispy treats, 30 of each, cut them to fit in a snack sized ziplock, put them in a 11 7/8 x 3 3/8 x 13 5/8 priority mail cardboard box with a few packing peanuts. I guess I will find out in a few days if they arrived in good condition.

Oh, that helps a lot! I am not Martha Stewart, either; and trying to get enough of my cookies to turn out--without being burned--for an entire company just might never happen!

I'm with KTMom on the not baking part. :D I wanted to add that the companies don't really expect treats as a whole that I've ever heard. If they get something to share, I would guess they like it pretty well. If you just want to send to your own kid, its perfectly ok. If you'd like to send something to be shared, its very easy. This place ships directly to the academies. Found these Twizlers to be a fairly inexpensive way to say, "Good job! From, Your Generic Parents". They have a ton of candy here:

Great idea! My son's birthday is coming up in a week--do you know of any way to have a cake delivered to him and his company?

my roommates mom sent two cakes to the company, one in the middle of indoc, and the other at the end. unfortunately, the upperclassmen ate them all. you could try tho. delano also has smaller cakes that they will give him at lunch. you just have to call and order it. i'm not sure what the number is, but you could probably find it on the website

Bruce's bakery will deliver cakes too. I saw the ad in the store. I'm not sure what I'll do for my son's birthday,,,it's apparently a big day at the Academy too...30 Sept. He share's his birthday with KP!

My son's is August 21. We also saw that Bruce's will deliver. Bruces's has a website. I'm planning to check and see if they have Red Velvet Cake...his favorite!

I am at work right now and do not have the number for the catering people at Delano. They are so sweet and make a great cake...it is only about 15 dollars and you just send them a check . It is on the honor system that you will send it. They present it to your son or daughter at lunch...lots of fun and my son said it was a good cake. If you cannot find the number then pm me and I will find it.

The nice ladies there only take checks, no VISA, MC or AMEX. Just call them up & request what you'd like & when you'd like it delivered & send in your check. One of the ladies said, "I'm their Mom while you're not here". She endeared me to her forever. :)

Cakes, cookies and stuff that goes bad are best because they'll give your candidate incentive to just give it all away and not horde it (like me). I got caught 3 times over the course of my plebe year one was a single cookie, the second was a drawer full of little snacks and the third was a sea chest and two drawers full from a huge care package with chips and sealable goods...Twas not a fun night

I thought after indoc plebes can have cookies and snacks. I just baked all night tonight to give to my son on Sunday. I hope this wasn't a waste of time.

they still aren't supposed to have food until recognition. that being said, i almost always had a drawer full of food. as long as you don't make it obvious that you have it, most people don't really care

Thanks for the phone numbers and information on birthday cakes. I'm glad plebe and public enemy posted the info on food in the rooms; I hadn't realized there were still restrictions after Indoc.
