Is there a specific email address to send it to the fileroom? I couldn’t find it on the website.

Also, the link that gibby posted is from 2010 so the admissions committee date is incorrect. However, it is nonetheless interesting information! Where did you get the info that adcoms work over spring break? I thought they all go home?

If you think about it, they could be making the most important decisions of the year at Harvard. Surely they would not take a break right at the end!
I’m not positive, but I think it is fileroom@fas.harvard.edu
Not positive, but it looks right!

Hey guys, so the competition that I was talking about what the Chemistry Olympiad. At my region getting a 50/60 always qualifies you for USAChO finalist status. We get the official results back on like March 19th though. Would it be appropriate to send an update earlier claiming to be a finalist(in addition to other awards) if your chem teacher(who has a Masters in Chem) grades your test beforehand(before sending it) and tells you that you got a 55/60? That would leave some room for error.

Jeffrey: If your application isn’t a slam-dunk by February 1st of next year, then a really positive showing at the Chemistry Olympiad on March 19th IS NOT going to matter one way or the other. If your application needs that kind of reassurance at such a late date in the application process, then it is a very borderline app – and no one can tell you with any certainty what will happen.

To clarify: I’m asking if it is ok to not to update them that I am a USAChO finalist before I actually get my official results. I’m a junior just planning ahead =p

I’m not sure why you are not getting it. Your application needs to be a slam-dunk the day you press the submit button. Any updates should only enhance your application materials. That’s it. Your application should NOT depend on you being a USAChO finalist – so no, it’s not okay to update them before you get your results. Your application should stand on it’s own the day you press the submit button. What is it that you are not getting?

I don’t think it would be a good idea to claim you’d achieved something you hadn’t, even if you felt sure you were going to. If one person on the committee happened to know better, that would end it for you.

perry772 When did you send your update and when did they reply because they still haven’t replied to mine which I sent last Saturday and resent on Thursday?

So do you guys think I should resend my update?

@ InVeritas, I didn’t get a reply on a single update myself, but I wouldn’t resend if I were you! It’s very possible they’re printing and filing whatever updates they’re getting, and its fairly possible a tutelage of ‘last minute’ updates are flowing into the fileroom right now, so no need to worry.

It MIGHT not give a good impression to an adcom if they have to open your file again for an update you’ve already included. Can’t verify the above, but this was discussed on another thread, and the bottomline was- send updates you absolutely HAVE to, and don’t repeat!

I sent my update on Thursday and received a reply on Thursday. I did however dig through the statistics of my previous video update on YouTube, and Harvard hasn’t even seen it. I think that I must have either been a sure rejection or an acceptance. I have heard that they only look at updates if they need to.
