Sorry if this is obvious, but I can’t find the date online. My mom is trying to book flights now and I need the date as soon as possible. Also how do you RSVP? In my admitted student portal I can only register for Destination Tulane despite being admitted into the Honors Program.
@StagNation
I don’t think it is obvious yet. I am sure they will make the official announcements soon which will include the itinerary. However, I did stumble across the pdf form they have online for parents to sign to consent to you being hosted on campus. That had the dates, so at least you can go ahead and make the plane reservations. If they hold true to form (and I strongly suspect they will), registration and packet pickup will start at 10 AM on Sunday, and the program will kick in starting at 11 AM. The Monday portion includes the option to sit in on classes, so there is no official end time, but I would say don’t plan a flight out earlier than 5 PM. Of course, if you can stay overnight Monday and fly out at your leisure on Tuesday it is much more relaxed, I would think.
Weekend 1:
Sunday, March 1 - Monday, March 2, 2015
Weekend 2:
Sunday, March 22 - Monday, March 23, 2015
*Per Jeff Schiffman of admissions, the form I had linked here was not the right one for an RSVP.-FC *
Thanks FC! I have another question for accepted honors students. When you log into the admitted student portal, are you given the option to RSVP for Honor’s Weekend? Because I am not - I am just given Destination Tulane. I feel like this might have something to do with how I didn’t receive the proper acceptance materials at first (I may be in the system as non-honors despite what I actually am).
Good observation, and I don’t know the answer to that one 100%. But since the form requires a signature from a parent, even if an electronic one, I suspect this is not something you RSVP for through Gibson. Destination Tulane has no overnight, so no signature is required. That’s the difference.
Other Honors Program people: Do you see anything other than Destination Tulane on your admitted student portal?
@StagNation I was just able to register following the link in my acceptance letter. I will be there the second weekend. I don’t see anything different in Gibson portal though.
@StagNation
I would email or call the Honors Program Office and get that link. That certainly explains why you didn’t have it, since they messed up your award initially.
@96blue That’s the ticket, it’s in my revised letter of acceptance. I didn’t read closely enough! My bad.
Those weekends for TSW are correct - we made reservations already - but the directions on how to reserve a spot are supposedly coming soon. Only Destination Tulane reservations currently open.
@iampia
Are you sure? @96blue seems to have already made reservations via some link that was in the acceptance letter, and @StagNation seems to have found the same link in the revised letter they sent him/her. If you have your acceptance letter from Tulane, maybe you should take a look. Let us know.
I thought the link in the letter was just a tentative schedule and that the “formal” invite was to be sent out in the spring. Her Gibson acct has not been working so perhaps there’s an update there. Thanks for the heads up, we’ll call and get Gibson worked out.
@iampia
Perhaps initially that link was a tentative schedule, and now that things are set perhaps it has transformed into a sign-up site. Just guessing. I hope her Gibson account gets fixed.
@iampia is right. The link in the letter is tentative and invites come out formally a little later.
OK, good. Thanks for the clarification. 96blue made it sound like a sign-up site already, but I guess I misunderstood.
But it does look like you could follow the instructions on that pdf I linked you to and get signed up now.
That is reassuring, thank-you @StagNation
Just out of curiousity, does your Gibson have info other than your name & that you’ve been accepted? Should it show the current offers (i.e. scholarship awarded so far and Honors invite)? Still wondering if my Ds is correct/updated.
I don’t know if Gibson ever shows Honors status. The scholarship award will show up when they activate the financial tab of your account. Usually that is in February, IIRC. Does that agree with your account, @StagNation?
@fallenchemist Yep, you’re right
Hey All! Just a quick FYI. The linked form above is not the RSVP form for Top Scholars Weekend. The on-line RSVP link will be sent shortly to students invited to the program. Thanks!
OK, thanks Jeff. I’ll remove the link so there is no further possible action taken from it.
D2 was pleased to receive the formal invitation to Top Scholars Weekend today in the mail. For those who were wondering about Gibson, she checked her Gibson account and didn’t find anything there beyond Destination Tulane.
This seems to be the same program as the Honors Weekend D1 attended and quite enjoyed two years ago. I wonder why Tulane is “rebranding” it, though. The Honors Weekend label seemed entirely appropriate.
Allowing the students to register for fall courses even before they’ve decided whether to attend Tulane is simply a stroke of genius. Students, my advice is to take advantage of this. You walk out of the appointment with a schedule for the fall, and can sign up for classes that are otherwise pretty difficult to get into, particularly as a first-year student.
@Arlmom2
It is the same program. The rebranding came at the same time they changed the requirements to graduate with honors, and introduced the Tulane Scholars Program. New product, new name essentially.
Agree with what you said. The extra time on campus, the chance to sit with and eat with and talk with various profs, and the informational sessions are valuable. Walking out with your fall schedule already set is extra cool, even if you don’t end up at Tulane.
