When is the right time to prepare for the GRE?

I am a college freshman and I plan to attend graduate school sometime in the future. Is it too early for me to start studying for the GRE? I heard that the quantitative reasoning portion is fairly easy since it does not require any advanced math. However, I have always strugged with reading and writing as I am a slow reader and I take my time to write essays.

The best way to “study” for the verbal section is to read journal articles in your field over the course of undergrad. This will help your reading comprehension and vocabulary. That said, you are only a freshman and shouldn’t be worrying about the GRE yet. Focus on doing well in your classes and figuring out what your passions are and where they will take you. You might not end up needing to take the GRE!
