When it comes down to admissions, how important is the PSAT?

When it comes down to admissions, how important is the PSAT?

If you get commended or so on the PSAT but manage 2200+ on the actual SAT, would colleges really care about the lower PSAT score?

colleges won't even see the psat score

Good PSAT score can only help you, they don't see it unless you do good.

colleges will never see your score, period.

It's more about personal pride if do get a good score but if don't do well its okay since you time to improve on your SAT.

None at all unless you're a NMF or whatever the acronym is.

Yep, unless you're a National Merit Scholar, I don't think colleges will care either way since they won't see your score.

I'm hoping for NMS :D

Let me rephrase my question: when applying to prestigious schools (such as Duke, Yale, WashU), does it matter if you're NOT a National Merit Semifinalist or Finalist? If you simply get commended, will colleges see you as inferior to someone who is a Finalist? Or does it not matter if your SAT/ACT scores make up for it (as in 2200+ or 34+)?

For WashU, I believe that somewhere around 1/3rd of a year has National Merit, so, if you don't, it's not too big of a deal, if you do, it can only help you, though prestigious schools don't value it as much as say, the average state school
