I’m a female transfer student and I applied to Poly Canyon Village for housing. Should I get a shared room or private room? I’m a very private person, and I’ve never had to share a bedroom before. Also, I’m a very light sleeper, so if my roommate were to be a night person I would be screwed. But it’s like an extra $1,000 a year for a private bedroom, which I don’t think I’ll be able to afford. Any ideas?

It sounds like you would be happier in a private room. I know you said it costs more, but is there a way you can find a job this summer which will cover the difference? While it’s fine for some people to share as a transfer, others prefer the privacy of their own space. I know at your age I would! So, you’ll have to weigh the pros and cons and hopefully come up with the right solution for YOU. Good luck!

Thank you 2leases! Ya I think I am actually going to get an “easy” job at like a frozen yogurt store or something just to help cover the expenses a little bit…

I was going to get a shared room to save money, however I changed my app to a private bedroom. The rooms in PCV aren’t that big, so sharing seemed ridiculous, I rather not have to worry about who I could be sharing a room with.

SoCalTransfer,

That’s what I’m thinking of doing but I really don’t know if I could afford it…I’m going to be taking out a huge student loan as it is :(

I hear you KonaLuv, I unfortunately didn’t qualify for any grants, and got a small amount from the Stafford that I will be using along with a private loan. I figure that I will be living off campus the year after so one year is worth it. I don’t want to be with someone that snores incredibly loud or gets sick frequently and be subjected to that.

I also recommend getting a private room. The extra cost is worth the privacy, getting a better night’s sleep, having a quiet place to study and retreat to, staying healthy, and protecting your valuables (you can lock your door). Even as a freshman, my older daughter appreciated having her own room, and my younger daughter is hoping for the same.

I am a transfer student majoring in Business Administration and got accepted into Cal Poly for fall 2012. I have a 4.0 GPA. Is anyone sure when transfers register? Is anyone majoring in business or going to live on the on campus apartments? I want to live at poly canyon and I already applied to get a 4 person room with single rooms. I am trying to find roommates!
