I am curious to know if anyone out there has had their S or D lose a merit scholarship because they did not get the required GPA. If the scholarship was contributory toward " "financial need" was the loss of merit backfilled with a grant or did you have to pony up the extra thousands. I callled a couple of colleges and painted this worst case scenario. They tended to be vague about it. One did say they will meet a percentage of need ... so if the loss of the scholarship creates a vacum I'm thinking they would backfil some. Obviously you don't want to rely on an assumption because it could mean pulling your S or D out of a school you can no longer afford.

You can find posts about topics like this if you search the forum. Usually it ends up badly; son (its a boy in most posts I’ve seen) gets big merit aid, goes to school and decides life is a party, falls below the GPA needed to keep the scholarship. By the time they post they’re asking about options but its too late to apply for the following year at a different school, many end up moving back home and going to the local community college for a while.

The words “required GPA” are really say it all.
