Loved the Jimmy Kimmel youtube!
Hilarious! But gets the point across.
That was awesome. It must have been cathartic for those docs. I know I get tired of being patient and not talking about anti-vaxxers in a measured, calm, nonaggressive way, lol.
@Nrdsb4, that was hysterical. I’m sure that’s what a host of doctors are thinking when confronted by non-vaccinating patients.
@jaylynn, you must have the patience of Job.
I loved that one pediatrician who said “Remember that time you got polio? NO, YOU DON’T, because your parents &*%$-ing vaccinated you!”
Brooklyn Waldorf School was identified in the news this week as one school in which many parents opt out of vaccination records for philosophical reasons. Coincidentally I had to deal with this school professionally this week and in looking at their school website, there is a whole section on required vaccinations and NYS requirements and nothing on their website on how to request an exemption.
The NYTimes reported that the school with the lowest vaccination compliance of only 12% of students vaccinated was an Orthodox girls school in Williamsburg. One of the recent measles outbreaks a year or two ago was in the Orthodox community of Monsey in Rockland County that began when young unvaccinated teenagers travelled as a group to the U.K and Israel.
People are stupid.
VeryHappy, I think you just summarized this entire 169-page thread!
And Nrdsb4, thanks for that fabulous clip - I’m tempted to show it to some of my patients!
Speaking of the Orthodox community in NY, there is a circumcision practice that involves the mohel (sp?) uhhhh, removing any blood from the baby with his mouth. Babies have contracted herpes from this and some have died! The state wants to outlaw it but there’s pressure on the mayor to work with the community to figure out some compromise.
Ugh. This made me wonder how many babies die each year in the US from circumcision. The answer is more than 100. Where is Jenny Whatshername on this issue? Where’s the outrage?
Why aren’t they putting pressure and thought into researching autism instead of automatically assuming that vaccines are the culprit? Do they, in some sick way, like taking this gamble and putting everyone else at risk? I bet some of them do.
Sorry, rant over. It’s hard to take sometimes.
ETA - I had a beautiful 6 month old baby over today and just thinking of her vulnerability from these squid-brains makes me want to boil over.
I read this story earlier this week. Ewwww… just, ewwww.
Well, they’ve been doing it for – oh, I don’t know, millenia??
The real “ewwww” comes from the fact that the mohels transmit the herpes virus to the eight-day-old babies, who then die from it.
One wonders where the mohels caught the herpes virus. 8-|
Yea, that’s what I was thinking, along with, if they have an active cold sore on their mouth, why isn’t anyone telling them they can’t get near their newly circumcised baby? Where are these parents, and why, if they know this is an issue in NY, aren’t they more diligent about actually looking at the mohel before this happens?
I can’t even begin to imagine what a baby would have to go through to actually die from herpes.
On another note, 2 people I know came down with Pertusis (Whooping Cough) in the last couple of weeks. One was 25, one was 65 and they were in different parts of the country. Both had been vacinated previously. Apparently the vacine wears off. No one knows where they got it though because it can be contagious 2 weeks before symtoms show. The herd immuity is wearing off. Both are now avoiding any contact with others but it took a long time before they were diagnosed.
According to this vaccine schedule, if you didn’t get a TDAP vaccine at or after the age of 19, you should get another one. Pregnant women should get this vaccine during the 3rd trimester of every pregnancy.
Here is a schedule for vaccines which includes adults in an easy to read chart:

And a baby has died of the measles in Germany, which is having a worse outbreak than the US.
The decrease in MMR vaccination started and remained worse in Europe, as Wakefield did his dubious work in the UK.
I don’t really think it’s a good idea, b/c it spreads diseases.
^ Huh?
Romani, I think the new poster meant “when people don’t vaccinate their kids (thread title) - it is not a good idea”
