When people don't vaccinate their kids

Flu shot isn’t a required vaccine. Neither is chickenpox in most states. The nursing school (or employers) can make it a requirement for students, but most public services can’t require flu shots.

I think next year will be very different. There will be more places requiring proof of vaccine, and more types of shots required. Once there’s a Covid19 vaccine, it will be required. Should be anyway!

One significant hurdle the eventual Coronavirus vaccine will need to overcome is the perception that it was rushed. A voluntary vaccine like the flu vaccine, even though it changes every year, has a long track record of safety. I can foresee many sensible people being very reluctant about a new vaccine.

Re: #4082

Given the panic about COVID-19, it is likely that there will be a rush of demand that overwhelms initial production, so that it may be months or years from initial availability before everyone who wants one can get it. Remember the rush for the 2009 novel H1N1 influenza vaccine, and the more recent Shingrix vaccine?

Any vaccine hesitancy may be noticed only after initial shortages are no longer a problem.

It will be interesting to see how anti-vaxers react to the vaccine for novel coronavirus. Shout-out to the anti-vaxers on this thread: Are you planning to get the vaccine or let your own immune system take care of it?
