When people don't vaccinate their kids

Is there any information on whether or not this year’s flu vaccine is a good match to the primary circulating strain(s)?

I’ve been in the ICU on and off all day at another hospital. I heard nothing about the flu there.
Then again, I’ve been kind of numb all day so I might’ve just been oblivious.

psych_, from the link I posted:

Ah, I must have cross-posted with you. Good to know.

Edit: Hope whatever business that has you visiting someone in the ICU has a good outcome. I’m sorry to hear that’s been necessary.

:).

I had H1N1 the first time around. I was a senior in high school (08-09 year… don’t remember what month it hit). It was nasty, nasty, NASTY!

I had it, too. In MAY, for Pete’s sake! It was nasty, to say the least. So get that shot - it is not too late!

I already got my flu shot for the year but I wonder if I’m still immune since I had it? (Moot point but I’m just curious)

3 people have died in my town and a few others are on life support…freaky…

Yes, you’re well-covered if you got it in the fall. In fact, that’s the best time to get it. Getting it now means one is still vulnerable for a few weeks.

Wow that was really poor wording on my part. I meant I wonder if I can still get it if I had H1N1 a few years ago

I got mine in October at Walgreens. Weird thing…I was told there were two versions, one covered 3 strains and one covered 4. They were out of the one which covered the 4 strains…so I got the 3fer. Not sure to which strains I am now somewhat resistant.

I thought the 4 strain one was intended for those over 60- not sure. I got the 3, myself, as that’s all they had at CVS the first week of December when I got mine.

The strains of influenza that the current season’s vaccines are aimed at are given here:

Note: A/California/7/09 (H1N1)-like virus is the one that caused the concern in 2009.

Yes, you should still get this year’s vaccine, romani.

Jay- I already said I got this year’s vaccine.

Oh. Now I’m not understanding. I’m not sure if the disease strain of this year and 2009 is the exact same one. If it is, hopefully you are immune! Plus you got the vaccine strain, so – you should be set!

But what is the question?

If you are concerned about the virus that caused the concern in 2009, it is the A/California/7/09 (H1N1)-like virus which is included in the 2013-2014 vaccines (and the 2010-2011 through 2012-2013 vaccines), although the other viruses included were changed in some years.

Fiance got his today after all. I was kind of annoyed with the lady who gave it to him at the pharmacy. She made it a point to tell him she never bothers and when I said, “yay, now you’re safe from the flu!” She was like “well, not really” in a really negative tone. We know the vaccine isn’t perfect but we made the (imo correct) decision to get it, so keep your opinions to yourself, lady!

Is there a FB page called My Child’s Influenza Reaction? Could be interesting.

spits out water

That post caught me off guard!

Oy vey the question was clearly stated. I’m wondering if those who had h1n1, like myself, are immune to the new outbreak even without the shot.
