When RD Decision will be announced

Accepted!! 34 act and 4.0 unweighted. Good luck to all those waitlisted.

Was anyone deferred initially?

@ambitionfromday1 I know it’s not, as I toured too. That was just what I dismissed it as before getting my decision aha. I’m sorry, I’m bummed too.

Congrats to any/all of the admits! The official FB group is here https://www.f Official Washington University in St. Louis Class of 2018 | Facebook (You have to delete the space), or you can search “Official Washington University if St. Louis Class of 2018”. Hope to see you there!

D wait listed for engineering, she has done the best she possibly could. Thankfully she has found a great program elsewhere. Good luck to everyone else and congrats to those accepted.

Waitlisted. I expected that because I didn’t really show interest (Missouri is so far away from where I live, ;_;). I hope this isn’t an indicator that I won’t get into any other top colleges…

Also, how many / what’s the percentage of people who get waitlisted? To put things in perspective, it appears that they are a kind of school that just waitlists everyone.

Well I’m a little shocked. I got rejected with a 99 GPA/2220 SAT/34 ACT… My friend got in and he admittedly isn’t even close to me academically.

hawk96, just curious. did you demonstrate interest (visit, tour, interview, write etc)?

Waitlisted! I’m happy because I expected a rejection. Congrats to all those accepted!

2290/4.0 Wait listed, even with visit and on campus interview. Oh well.

I believe her stats were: reading 800 math 780 writing 750 97.5 GPA (unweighted) at a top public school. subject tests: 760 and 800. Three AP exams - score of 5. (school doesn’t offer many AP’s) had some national contest wins and decent extracurricular. good essay. tried for scholarship but didn’t get picked as a finalist.

To the posters above who said above that their waitlist/rejection doesn’t bode well for other schools - that’s not true. Last year a girl got rejected from Penn ED but got into Harvard RD. A boy got into Yale but rejected Emory Scholars. One boy who wanted Chicago got rejected but into Columbia while the other boy wanted Columbia and had the reverse happen. One student got into Princeton and rejected UC Berkely and UCLA and Dartmouth. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN! Don’t be discouraged! (that’s the mom in me talking)

accepted to college of arts and sciences – i’m pretty shocked, my SAT I and SAT IIs and GPA are all good but not stellar, and i haven’t shown any interest whatsoever, as I live in California and haven’t ventured to Missouri. where did this theory that Wash U waitlists those who don’t seem interested enough originate from?

Same as @plopinger123 I got accepted to engineering with good but not stellar scores and I did not show any interest (I am an international student) so showing interest is not conditio sine qua non to get accepted

@plopinger123, if you look at previous year’s decision threads, they tend to reject/waitlist overqualified people who didn’t show interest. I think I’m qualified but not overqualified and took a tour and was waitlisted, so I guess the theory is not entirely correct!

I wonder what kind of metrics WashU admission offices use. It seems like they might weigh on essay/recommendation letters over academic index. Maybe FA can be a factor, too. I got to be prepared for my youngest one who is in middle school.

Accepted for architecture! 3.9/2230. Really surprised to get in! I hope this means good things for this month. I showed interest in WashU by applying for a scholarship (rejected) and local info session

I applied to engineering with great scores/grades, activities, recs, etc. Can’t speak for my essay, but I don’t think it was horrible. I showed interest and WashU was my top choice, so being waitlisted is pretty disheartening since my other schools are far less academically weighted and even harder to get into. I did need financial aid, so maybe that hurts. I doubt I am “overqualified” despite my high scores, but it does make you wonder since protecting yield is such a big factor these days. I’m probably just not diverse enough though…just another Midwesterner. Being from further away probably would help since I assume they’re doing everything they can to become more nationally recognized (not that they aren’t already, but they certainly aren’t on the recognition level of schools like Harvard etc). Congrats to the admits, it is a wonderful school! If you haven’t visited yet make sure to do so, since I fell in love as soon as I visited. To my fellow waitlisted/rejectees, best of luck with other decisions.

D was waitlisted. Excellent candidate (high match for stats), and visited and interviewed on campus. Congrats to all accepted! She has other great options, so no worries!

D will make room for one of you waitlisters! She was accepted but no merit $$ so she will have to go elsewhere. She showed an enormous amount of demonstrated interest, interviewed, toured the campus, attended every event in our town. It’s a shame–fabulous school but too rich for our blood.

Got whitelisted. Had Grades and SAT scores superior to their average. Oh well ■■■■ 'em. If they want to accept dumb kids that’s their decision. The only reason I applied was because they had no supplemental essay anyways. And, St. Louis is the most dangerous city according to US News, the same company that ranks colleges.
