I'd like to take it again (took it in middle school once). I've been reading the red book and have been taking an online prep course. I'm going to take Algebra II this year, so can I just take it this year, even if it's a bad score? (I know there's something like Score Report for ACT.) Or should I really just wait until junior year?

Well, I took it as a sophomore and got a 36, so it’s definitely doable. However, keep in mind that I have already went through Algebra 2 in eighth grade. I would say go for it and see how you do; that way, you can set a benchmark for yourself and figure out where improvements need to be made.

I took it at the end of my sophomore year without studying and got a 30, so you can take it then. I already had pre-calculus by that point though, so my math background for the test was already covered.

I didn’t start to get really good at the test until junior year, however, because I guess I had more of a drive to really study and do well on it (I got a 35 during my junior year).

Take it at the end of Sophomore year when ideas are fresh in your mind. I was a sophmore and took the ACT in June and got a 32. I took an honor english class, which was EXTREMELY helpful on the english part and the reading (reading books actually helps for the exam). For math I took Calculus AB. Not needed, but atleast Pre-calc will be very useful.

Take it to see how you fair. That way you will know what you need to brush up on. And note that your mind set can seriously affect your score. So take it more often just incase one day you feel terrible and do bad. your score will generally improve from 10th to 11th and such.
