When should a student prepare himself to apply for this institution?

When does the application process normally begin for a high school student?

The official application is usually started during the summer or early fall of senior year. It is good to research the process beforehand.

but if you’re in your junior year, you can apply for summer seminar.

You should apply to your MOC’s and to the academy (s) of your choice NLT the “Spring” of you junior year.

Yes, really. The MOC’s will file the letter until fall but will have it; and the academies will start your package.

This is what we “officially” tell folks.

Start applying the spring of your junior year for the Academy.

Many of the nomination applications are due as early as October of your senior year…

Look at Academyadmissions.com

Like they’ve said, start applying about mid-junior year. Apply to summer seminar and all that jazz. As for when you should start preparing? The moment you decide you might want to come here. Start getting in shape for the CFA, stay involved with sports/extracurriculars maybe even pick up another if time allows (just remember, quality over quantity), and make sure to keep those grades up. The average entering gpa for the class of 2013 (best to be seen!) was something like 3.87. One really big time saving thing you can do is to start a file of every accomplishment since at least the beginning of high school. That won’t help you just with the summer seminar and main academy application, but it will help also with applications to other colleges and for scholarships.
