When should I apply for FAFSA?

<p>I am planning to start college in fall of 2014. Do I apply to FAFSA after or before January?
If both, which is better?</p>

<p>The FAFSA for fall 2014 freshmen becomes available for filing on January 1, 2014. It is the 2014-2015 FAFSA. You cannot complete and submit it before January 1.</p>
