The application for UIowa opens August 1st but I am not sure if I should apply in August or wait until I retake my ACT (I got a 24 but I am hoping for a 26+ on my retake) and then apply in October? I would prefer applying earlier but I am just worried that my 24 ACT is not good enough? Also, will applying later, around October affect anything (scholarship offers, housing/dorms, etc)?

I am out of state btw

leahsingleton, do everything in your power to up that score to 26 as at that point you qualify for the National Scholars Award which for many OOS students is the only scholarship in play. There is NO advantage to applying earlier than Oct. However, once you are accepted I suggest you immediately apply for housing as this is a first-come, first-served system.

Familiarize yourself with the various scholarships here: <a href=“First-Year Resident Scholarships”>http://admissions.uiowa.edu/finances/scholarships-first-year-students

Let’s say i won’t qualify for a scholarship once I apply and get accepted. When I send my new ACT score, will they take that new score into consideration and give me a scholarship?

btw i’m really confused about the RAI calculation. When I graduate high school, I would have a total of 18 classes taken. but when i apply, i would only have taken 13 classes. which one do i put in the RAI calculation for “courses completed?”

Q1: I am certain they will re-evaluate if they receive a second, higher ACT score but honestly, why bother applying with the lower score and risk muddying the waters? Take the test again and submit the higher score, that’s my advice.

Q2: see our discussion on your other thread
