I’m currently in my second year of high school out of four. I am from Romania and I am would like to know when I should apply for a college/university like nyu or columbia.I do not have the funding but I would like financil aid but I don’t know if I would get it.If I would apply for early decission could I get financial aid?And when should I apply for early decission?
Students apply one year in advance. For instance students are applying now for entrance next September 2016. Read the admissions pages for each college or uni you are considering for detailed due dates and required materials, especially the international student pages. They will often post a helpful timeline.
As for aid, you must also read the aid policies for international students. NYu and Columbia have very different aid policies. Aid is limited for internationals at most colleges. It will also depend on your family resources. Most internationals attending NYu are not getting aid and I would be surprised if you get enough. They unfortunately are not very clear about this on the website.
Columbia, however, will ‘meet 100% need’ if you are accepted. But they will be ‘need aware’ in admissions as they can’t admit everyone who needs a lot of aid. If you are an outstanding applicant from your country it may be possible.

Don’t waste your time or money applying to NYU if you need financial aid. NYU is well known for not giving very much aid, to either American or international students. And if you need a LOT of of aid, you might as well forget it. It’s not going to happen.
Don’t apply early decision if you need aid.
99% of In-need-of-FA-International applyig to NYU=GG.
Look into merit scholarships as well.
Also apply to University of Alabama if you have 3.5 GPA or equivalent, AND CR+Math 1400+SAT/32+ ACT for full tuition. However you still have to pay housing/meal plan/insurance/and other fees…
