When should I hear?

I finished my Navy App in late December but still haven't heard anything. I really would like to know my status even if I was rejected because I really want to finish my other plans. Would it be safe to assume that if I haven't heard anything by now that I will not be receiving an appointment?

Did you get a nomination? If so you're still in the running. If not, you're probably not. I saw on another board you got into CGA. Congratulations.

I did receive a nomination from my congressman, but it seems that by now any news is bad news (most of the appointments should have been given out by now), especially because I needed an eye waiver.

And yes I did get into the USCGA, I actually just want to accept that appointment, but I don't want to rush into something I may regret. I am going to wait to see ALL my options before accepting anything. My only problem is that my whole family is moving to Texas on April 9 and I will be living with a friend until I graduate. I want to send out my intentions before this change of address so I don't run into any conflicts.

Thanks for you help and support Boss

With a nom I think you're still in the hunt...but at least you have CGA to fall back on...I wouldn't worry too much about the address thing...hang in there a few more weeks and things will shake out.

I think its much too soon to think that you are out of the running. I'm sure that the biggest percentage of appointments have not been handed out yet. Also, for everyone that turns down an appointment, that opens another slot for someone else. Don't give up yet!

DrSnipes, since you have a nomination and hopefully you are QQQ'd, just stick it out a while longer. If you never received a QQQ'd letter, then I would talk to your BGO and ask if you have been found QQQ'd. It could just be the waiver causing the delay.

Yeah, I actually e-mailed him about that a while ago and I never got a response. Now might be a good time to get back to him. Thanks for the advice NavGirl.

Hey guys, I e-mailed my regional commander about my status, and the news was bittersweet, but better than none. I hope he won't mind me posting it here.

"James,
That is a well written letter. You have gone to our board and you
were qualified. So, you are now competing against student from your
district. It will be difficult for you to obtain an appointment. It is
possible but you are in a tough district. You are still in the running
so, I would wait before replying to USCGA. The national deadline is May
first for colleges to know your answer so, USCGA can wait. Good luck
and if you have any questions give me a call. "

Dr. Snipes:

Keep the faith. "You are still in the running".
They can't give you false hope, the BGO don't have any more insight into whether or not you will get an appointment, hence the disclaimer.

You are still in the running, so wait out the May 1st reply date. There are 6 (or 7) weeks left. Anything can happen. The good news is that you have been found "qualified".

During an informal chat with my son's Regional Officer last year during CVW, (at my son's request) I was told that things did not look that great for his admission. I left quite dejected, and did not share the totality of the conversation with him. He became a member of the class of '08!

Remember that they are all taught to be careful in their relaying information; to use caution and not oversell.

Good luck in your pursuit. I remember how difficult the waiting is.
