When Should I Retake the ACT?

Hi everyone,
I took the ACT in February and got a 31C (36E, 36R, 23M, 29S). My parents had me sign up for the one in February and in April, but I was very sick on the April test date and moved it to June. The thing is that due to medical issues, I was withdrawn from school, and will be doing junior year in the fall. I have not had Algebra 2 yet, and I have only taken Biology.

My parents paid for ACT test prep and they guarantee a 4 point score increase. My baseline was a 28, so I need one more point. My question is if I should take the June test or wait until next year? My parents say it’s up to me. I feel like I will do a lot better with more math and science learned. Will colleges look down on me taking it with a year or so gap between tests? Do they mind if I take the ACT 3 times? Thanks in advance!

Both my kids took their ACT at the end of junior year. I would advise you to take it near the end of the year when you have just completed Algebra 2 so it is fresh in your mind. I think a year of maturity can also help with reading and science scores too. It is ok to take it three times if your parents want you to take one in June because they paid for test prep. To prepare for the last one after Algebra 2, study one of the prep books and take several practice tests on the weekends leading up to your test. Your parents can time you. By the way, I do know a student who took it three times and achieved the best score the third time.

@BunnyBlue Ok thank you! My reading score is good but my science one could use some improvement, and I really struggled with the math because I hadn’t learned a lot of the concepts. My tutor helped me, but there’s only so much they can do 2 hours a week. My parents are ok if I don’t want to take it yet.
