I am applying to Vandy regular decision, but since there were no supplements, I submitted my application a while ago and just got the email about interviews. The deadline is January 18th, but my question is, should i just do it now or wait until later when most other rd applicants will be doing interviews?

You should do an interview as soon as possible, interviewers get a ton of requests

timetodecide is correct. the holiday season is pretty brutal for people’s time, so if you are ready to interview, do so.

ok thanks!

If possible set up 1-2 interviews, or mock interviews, before the Vandy one. A little practice helps.

Yeah my guidance counselor is going to help me prepare. Does anyone know what kinds of questions are asked at the interview by the way?

you should be open minded and flexible…most interviews end up in neutral territory like coffee shops where privacy is so-so. I have had a son who had a great interview for Duke in a doctor’s office, and an equally good student had an interview in a Duke grad’s house who was distracted with his children playing in the same room. My Vandy son drove an hour to meet with a Vandy grad working in a University, and he also arranged a conversation with a Vandy grad in city government in his home town. The thing you need to do is to find out what Vandy meant to the person who conducts the interview. Everyone has a different story. Our sons brought a half page resume with highlights on it…for the interviewers. It is a lot to expect them to remember the names of things that you are keen on in high school. But interviewers do not need your entire EC record. This is a conversation about the college/university. Come with a handful of points you want to get across about yourself–no more. Come with a few questions and be ready to be a good listener. good luck to you in all your interviews.

That was very helpful thank you!!

When I interview I keep it pretty informal. We meet at Starbucks and just talk like we were hanging out and having a regular conversation.

This might be an elementary question, but how do you schedule an interview? Does someone at Vanderbilt contact you?

Im wondering the same thing Canefreak2001!!! Also what about if I’m applying early?

i subitted my application like late september and they emailed me about a month or so later with an id number and you do it electronically

i applied RD and interviewed today. it was really casual and went soo smoothly, but then again my alum was a recent grad who was bascially the male version of me hahaha but none of the questions really took a lot of thought, like why do you want to come here, greatest strength/weakness, what sets you apart, etc but the beginning was like all about gpa, test scores, and everything on the common app

^^what did you wear?
