When should I send my SAT / ACT scores to colleges?

I have already searched the forums, and did not find any satisfactory answers.

All of the colleges that I am applying to already have my SAT/ACT scores being reported within their application, but do not have the SAT/ACT official score report.

Should I send this report ASAP or is it fine if I send it after I apply to the school? Do the colleges I am applying to need these official score reports in order to accept my application?

Thanks!

Some schools might accept self reporting scores from common application or application forms, but very few schools do this. For the most part, especially for selective schools, “Your application is considered INCOMPLETE, until all required documents are received and that includes OFFICIAL TEST SCORES.”
So, to avoid the ACCEPTANCE DAY SURPRISE, be it EA/ED/RD, ORDER YOUR OFFICIAL SCORES to ALL the SCHOOLS you APPLIED to.
It will cost you some money, but at-least you will be confident that your application will be complete come review session.
Good luck.

Thanks.

Do you know what I should search for/look for on each individual school’s website, so that I can find which schools require official reports and which schools don’t?

Navigation on Most schools website will look like this, However, its not a template for all schools:
HOMEPAGE;
UNDERGRADUATE/GRADUATE;
ADMISSION;
APPLICATION;
FRESHMEN/TRANSFER;
REQUIRED MATERIAL;
TEST SCORE;

Again BEST OF LUCK.

You’ll probably find their score reporting policy under the admissions/undergraduatea dmissions/whatever derivative of that tab on the college website. However, I have not yet seen a school that does not ask for official score reports. There are probably some out there, but if I was an adcom I wouldn’t put much stock in a self reported 2400/36 unless I had official proof of said perfect score.

Well I figured that I needed to send my official score reports at some point in time, I had just originally thought that colleges would accept you on the basis that your scores align with the official report. I thought that you sent the score report after your acceptance, because worst case scenario and you’re a liar, the college can just terminate your acceptance.

Although this is not the way I currently see things… lol I just sent about $100+ worth of ACT and SAT scores in a mini panic-attack. Well, that settles that…

Majority of colleges require official reports of scores from the testing agency to be considered for admission. A minority (which decades ago was actually the overwhelming majority) accept scores reported on your official high school transcript. Though it is possible, in the vein of anything is possible, that there are some that accept scores as reported on the application, I am aware of none that do so. The last colleges I knew of that did that were the UCs and CSUs but those began requiring test scores from the testing agency about 6 years ago.

Okay, that all sounds good.

…Um when should I have my school send transcripts to the universities? :l

WHAT? are you kidding us XAPHENX!!!
These are COMPULSORY admission requirements we are talking about here.
EVERY SCHOOL has a dateline for receipt of documents and requested admission materials, and if yours are not received by due date, then you are definitely not going to get reviewed for admission- or just simply going to be put aside for automatic rejection pile.
Visit the school’s site one at a time and see the requirements and datelines. This can’t be OVERSTATED.
Good Luck.

You seem to be just getting familiar with what is required by the applicaiton deadline which for many schools is Jan 1. You should review the deadlines and materials required for admission information you will find on-line for each college to which you are applying. Most colleges want the supporting materials such as transcripts and recommendation letters sent by the application deadline. Most also give some leeway to such materials as long as they arrive within a week or so after the deadline.

I am, as a matter of fact, rather new to this game. First one of my siblings to apply :l

On the common application, my counselor has submitted the counselor’s report, does this include my transcript? I sure hope so… :o

Thanks again for the help! 0.o

The counselor’s report is supposed to include your transcript but you should confirm with your counselor that it was in fact sent. It is the applicant’s responsibiliuty to assure all things have been sent and thus it is wise to confirm rather than assume something was sent.

Usually the counselor report in the common app includes your transcript. However, in my S’s school, he had to fill out a separate form for the counselor to do the transcripts even though they were on the common app. If you are not using the common app, you’ll have to request your school send transcripts to each individual college. This may be difficult if your HS is on break right now. For schools that are not on common app and have 1/1 deadlines, you should email admissions and let them know the transcripts are on the way. Some colleges don’t require you to send transcripts with the application (US’s, UIUC for example), but verify that yours do or don’t.

Xaphenx, yes, I will agree with Drusba & JccMom. they both covered everything in that aspect. That is why I love this forum, I have learned a lot form it.
Good luck to you.
