Is it beneficial to send in the Common App as quickly as possible?

No. Take time to make sure it’s the way you want it and wait for the new year to start in case you have any changes/additions

Wait until late October. You may change your mind about some of your schools and have to update thins as well. Also, most teacher and counselors and not prepared for recommendations yet.

Take your time. Fill out all the logistical stuff so that you will not be stressed in the fall

Before the deadlines. Preferably a few days at least before the deadline just in case something goes wrong/you have problems submitting.

Ah, I see thank you all for replying. So am I right in assuming that colleges give no preferential treatment to those that apply early? Also, you say that I should wait, just in case I might need to change something. Is the essay the only thing I have to revise, or are there more things that I may need to change later?

Some schools have “rolling admissions” but most give no preference to when an app is submitted as long as it is by the deadline.

You might want to change your essay, your answers to any of the questions (if you move, or change classes, or get new test score results, or add an EC/honor…)

Several schools our kids are applying to suggest sending as early as possible if you are looking for merit aid as they have rolling admissions, merit aid is first come, first serve and you get priority for housing selection based on application date. Just something to look into.

I don’t believe there is any house priority in general by applying early. Only if you are an ED student. Housing choice is more often based on how soon you send in those forms after acceptance.

For merit aid, many schools have an earlier RD date than if you are not trying for that.
