When should I start applying? and..

I plan on transferring for fall 2011, so when should I start applying for the colleges that I'm looking at? I was thinking sometime between November-February.

Also what is it like being a transfer student going from a community college to a 4 year university? Will it be like being an incoming freshman? Will I still meet a lot of people and still be able to get involved with campus life? I want to live in the dorms.

The community college I go to now is so boring, there's literally nothing to do and almost everybody is older than me (I started when I was 17). So I'm excited about going to a 4 year college.

Alright I’ll try addressing some of these questions…

1) Application for transfer students aren’t usually due until until March/May after the Freshman Undergrad decisions are pretty much done. (The only exceptions are the UCs which their application filing period is November 1-30.) Just make sure to check with each school you plan on applying to see the deadlines. Most transfer students start filling out applications around their Winter break. This is generally a good time to commence with the generic information. Hopefully you would have worked somewhat on your essays and personal responses as you don’t want them to be rushed.

2) It’ll be significantly different. A lot of people had said their courses become harder and more accelerated. Meaning plan to spend a sufficient amount of time studying outside of class and applying yourself.

I posted a link below on the experiences of the first semester.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/434458-your-first-semester-experience-ucs.html</a></p>

It’s recommended that you join some clubs and involve yourself in activities in order to meet some peers. If you do this and have an outgoing personality I really see no problem in meeting/making friends.

Also, it’s good you want to live in dorms but be aware that not all schools offer guaranteed housing to transfer students. It’s usually in a first come/first basis.

Thanks so much, the link you posted really helped!!

While the deadlines for many schools are in March & April, there are also many schools with deadlines before March, here’s just one:

[Office of Undergraduate Admissions: Transfer Students - Deadlines](http://www.admissions.umich.edu/transfers/deadlines.php)

You need to go to the websites of the colleges you’re interested in and find out the deadline information there.

Whats different social wise? from us and freshman’s?
