Hello, I just finished freshman year and am taking SAT prep over the summer (30 hours). I was wondering if it is too early to start? I have been told you should start 3 months before the test but my parents started me now. Any opinions on when is a good time to start?
It’s a bit early, but not a bad idea. 30 hours seems like a lot for an incoming sophomore, but if you want the help, go for it. You’re right, you’ll want to concentrate the majority of your prep in the 3 months before you take the test, which will probably be in junior year.
Definitely too early, you want to prep your year between soph and jr so you can study for both the SAT and PSAT at the same time. If you’re already enrolled and can’t get a refund, then not much you can do. You’re better off doing something else in the summer - volunteeering, class and relaxing! Good luck.
First I think depends on your Math level, my friend’s DD finished her standardized tests before end of sophomore year
but then she is at MIT…
The ACT and SAT indicate extent of your college preparation. College preparation begins the moment you enter your high school. That means you do assignments on time, complete homework, pay attention and participate n class, study for and do well on tests, and read everything you can get your hands on. Your study for these tests begins right away without additional charge. Practically, you will not have taken all the classes that maybe relevant to these tests so will need to delay test preparation until you have learned class content.
Overall, then, understand and undertake college preparation by learning in high school. It seems kinda perverse to me to think that high school is a secondary element in preparing for college. Test preparation instead should help you learn test strategies. responding quickly and accurately to complex inmultiple choice items, and learning academic skills and information. So, high school is the way you ready yourself for test preparation. The test, and college.
