I am a college freshman and was wondering when kids in college start studying for finals. My professors are still teaching us new material that will be on the final until December 8th. My finals start December 10th and last until December 15th. That gives me 2-3 days of studying before my finals. Since we are still trying to cover new information, I don't know when I should being studying for finals because I still need to do the readings and practice problems for the new material. I want to do really well on my finals so it can boost my grades. Anyone who has been successful in their finals(getting As on all their finals) want to tell me how many days in advance they studied for finals? I am currently enrolled in 2 science classes (bio and chem) and 2 GER requirement classes. I need As on my finals to help boost my grades up and/or keep my grades where they are.

Well, I always studied for finals after classes ended, but if you have a little bit of extra time after doing all of the homework and stuff go ahead and study. Better to be too prepared this time around rather than not prepared enough

How do you expect anybody to answer this question? It’s not like there’s some magic number of hours/days anybody can study for and do well. It depends entirely on your own abilities, the specific class, the professor, the material, etc. You need to study enough to know the material and walk into the test confident. If you have 2-3 days, it’s not like you can extend that. Make good use of those days and do well.

That said, I suggest you start studying before the finals. After never seems to work out well for me.

^ I wasn’t looking for some magic formula, I was just wanted to see what other people do, so I can gain some perspective.

Do you guys have more than 2-3 days after your classes have ended, and your finals start?

I plan on starting 6 days in advance of my 1st final (this will be when classes are still going on).

I usually only had a day.

^ So you only started studying one day in advance?

I never had all of my exams on the first day of exam week, so yes. Also, generally the science exams were near the end of the week. The one exception is that if I had term papers I tried to finish those before exam week. Try studying in advance as much as you can, it can’t hurt. The worst thing that could happen is that you will slap yourself over the head with the A+ you got for overstudying.

^ I wish I could slap myself over the head for an A+, but sometimes no matter how hard I study, I still do bad.

Then don’t study harder. Study better. Effort is nothing if it’s not directed in an efficient and well-targeted manner.
