I'm a junior. I just saw a friend say they signed up for the SAT in November and I thought that was very early. I think the earliest I'll take it is March, but probably May/June. Whwn did you take them? And how many times?

Most take the test sometime midway or later in junior year or fall senior year. If you are intending to apply to a college that also wants SAT subject tests, you must also plan for a time to take those. Ideally any test should be taken once but if you do not get score you think you need to apply to desired colleges, a retake may be necessary.

Based on my two teen’s experience, I’d suggest starting early, at least by January or March of your Junior year. Since super scoring is common, two test settings are helpful for most. You can run into problems fitting in the SAT II’s if you wait too long, especially if you need to repeat one of them in the fall to bring up a subject interest score, along with the SAT or ACT.

My teens counselor recommended the SAT in June and October, but SAT II’s and/or ACT’s, plus AP studying must be done. Not good advice.

Don’t wait. Start early. Prepare well. Good luck to you.

I’d advise taking it in March and seeing how you do. Then you can take it again fall of your senior year. Try not to take it during May/June if you have AP exams or finals and stuff, cause you’ll be stressed out, sleep deprived, etc.

don’t wait like me and take it one time during the fall and “hope for the best…”

take it once or twice spring of jr year and one time fall of senior year or vice versa. We have been advised by colleges that they really don’t want to see a student that has taken it more than 3 times.

I would start as a Freshman. Take it early and often is the rule. Then just report your best scores as most colleges allow self-report your best scores . It can only get better for you the more you take it. You might win the jackpot one time as you stick a nice score. The things can only get better after that.

ACT will be happy as they collect more money.

You will be happy as you will be so far ahead of your classmates in the college selection process come junior year.

And so goes the standardized test game!!!

Enjoy the thrill of it!!!
