Hey guys, I’m a transfer applicant and I am applying to schools with application deadlines of March 1st. However, I will submit the applications soon, lets say Jan 27th.
So when should I submit my fafsa and CSS profile? I would like to receive max aid and since my dad is self employed, his income could be less than last year but he won’t have that info until at least Feb 15th. Do you guys recommend just using last year’s info and filling them out and submitting them along with the apps?
Look on the school’s website and follow the directions carefully. They will tell you what year to use (likely 2015, but CHECK first), when they are due, etc. I would file them as soon as possible once you have all of the data you need.
Now. Submit them now.
You MUST use the 2015 tax return information for,the 2017-2018 school year. NO CHOICE!
Remember…you will be using 2015 tax return information for the 2017-2018 fafsa and Profile. Both have been available for submission since October.
@suzy100 there is NO choice on which tax year to use on the fafsa and Profile for,the 2017-2018 school year. You MUST use the 2015 tax year information.
Thank, I did not know that it was a requirement to use the earlier year info. Appreciate it both of you!
@alexis1223
The prior prior year requirement is new for the 2017-2018 school year.
“@suzy100 there is NO choice on which tax year to use on the fafsa and Profile for,the 2017-2018 school year. You MUST use the 2015 tax year information.”
@thumper1, I didn’t say a student could choose. I simply didn’t know if, for transfers, they might require 2016 which is why I said: “Look on the school’s website and follow the directions carefully. They will tell you what year to use (likely 2015, but CHECK first)…”
Even for transfers…the 2017-2018 forms will require the 2015 tax information.
This is NOT set by the colleges…it was set by FAFSA and Profile.
