When should I take the SAT? Should I even take the ACT?

Hi everyone!

I’m a junior and currently going to take SAT on the January test date. This way, I have winter break to study and it’s before AP exam season starts.

What other times should I take the SAT? Should I take it again in June? Obviously, I will take it sometime in early early fall in senior year.

Additionally, should I bother taking the ACT? Science is my strong suit but the reading on the SAT seems much easier, as well as the more algebra based math…I’m pretty bad at geometry. I’ve already taken the SAT (in 7th grade for a TIP) and the PSAT twice now. I feel it would be easier to focus on the SAT because I mostly know the format. I’d rather not have to study for two tests.

Thanks!

I was also thinking of forgoing the full SAT in June and taking some subject tests: Chemistry (in AP Chem), math, or possibly Spanish (in AP Span Lang). What would be the better option?

If you take the SAT in January 2017, June 2017 and once in the fall, that’s a good schedule. It may be worth your time to take the ACT before you take the second SAT in order to see how you perform. If your ACT score is higher than the SAT score (use a concordance table to compare), you may want to consider devoting all test prep for the ACT instead.
