I've lived in India for the past 8 years and i'm moving to Texas this august. I just finished 11th grade and I am planning on taking the SAT this academic year. My brother finished high school this year, and he's going to UT(He got an avg SAT score, and hence my parents want me to do better :O) so my parents know all about the SAT process, college admission process, etc. My parents are telling me to take the SAT once this year ( October/December ) and then take it later based on the score. I'm not sure if i'm ready. I've been practicing and i'm taking some full practice tests but i'm stil not sure if i'm ready. Any tips on when I should take it?

If your going to be a senior I say you need to take the SAT like ASAP!!!

Are you going to be a senior in high school this year, graduating in June of 2012? If so, you will be applying to colleges this fall. Many state schools have early deadlines for full consideration for scholarship and aid - some around November 1st. Many schools have deadlines in December or January.

You’ll probably want to take it the first date it’s offered (Oct 1) and then again on the next date (Nov 5). Many people do better on the second time around, and schools will generally look at your highest scores. Here’s a link to the college board website showing dates available and registration deadlines: [SAT Test Dates - SAT Deadlines](<a href=“The SAT – SAT Suite | College Board”>SAT Dates and Deadlines – SAT Suite | College Board)

I’m sorry. I just finished 10th grade.

umm those keys are far away from each other but okay then all I will say is once you are ready take the test.

^agreed
10char

Oh - then I’ll just share what my kids did. They took it once in the fall of junior year - Oct or Nov, then again in either January or March.

Make sure you get signed up for the PSAT - it will be given in October of your junior year. At our school, we had to sign up early in the fall, and the school wasn’t very communicative - we could have missed signing up for it if we weren’t paying attention. It is a practice test for the SAT and will give you an idea of where you stand.

^Wow that’s weird my school doesn’t make us sign up, we are forced to take it. :/

Oh and i forgot to mention I took the PSAT last year in India, and i did alright. Not too bad, but not too good either.
Thanks, I think I should be taking it sometime this December if all goes well.
