When should somebody start seriously prepping for the SATs (in quest of a 2300+)?

When would you recommend? Rising Freshmen? Rising sophomores? Midway through sophomore? Summer before junior?

Personally I'm probably going to start somewhere early this school year (as a sophomore). I just want to know what other people think.

Started about a month before the test and just did the blue book. Got a 2350.

Wait until next summer. Enjoy your life if you have one (prolly not, looking at your sn).

I do love an excuse to procrastinate. Ok, next summer it is.

And hey, I totally have a life (at least on weekends). Weekdays, not so much…

FROM THE WOMB.

lol, assuming you’re of average intelligence, start prepping about 3 months before the test. but be building up your vocab base throughout high school with the books you read in english classes, etc etc.

I started in February of junior year and got a 2400. If you study hard in school, it won’t take much prep.

I do think it’s a good idea to start early on vocab.

^ When did you take the test, 112358?

I got the 2400 in May, but the actual studying only encompassed about seven weeks. I didn’t study much between the March (2310) and May testings.

start as a freshmen. i will make sure my kid starts as a freshmen. but i wouldn’t get too serious until summer of sophmore year

One week before the test (got a 2340). But realistically, I had lots of test-taking experience under my belt before mounting a serious attempt at the SAT (i.e. took SAT three times and the ACT twice in middle school, took PSAT sophomore (2180) and junior (2140) years, and had previously taken SAT (2170) and ACT (33) without studying). If I had to do it over again, I’d probably take a practice test once per weekend for the month before the test and then take 3-4 practice tests the week of. Also, I would not recommend taking the test before Christmas of your junior year.

Alright, sounds good all. I plan on taking about 13 or so official practice tests the months leading up to the test on weekends.
